An Ode to the Man Himself
OBAMA addressed Congress last night for the first time. His address lasted 52 minutes, where he assured all Americans that we will come out of this recession stronger than ever. He also addressed Americans upset with the bail out of banks and the auto industries. In response to this discontent, he stated that “It’s about helping people.”
Regardless of political ideologies, it is safe to say that Obama is working to combat our nation’s problems. He has already passed a 785 billlion dollar stimulus package, an energy bill, and visited over 6 states to sell his ideas. He has lived up to the standard of ethics he campaigned for the past two years. We saw a result of this with the resigning of a tax evading adviser.
Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama all have displayed some of the highest standards of ethics in history. These revolutionary leaders have always put the interest of the community above any personal agendas when enacting legislation and action against oppression. We already see Obama taking action against the habits that brought us into the recession not only with the stimulus, but also with the toughest lobbying policy in the White House to date.
All eyes are on Obama, Congress, and America. Obama is working as one piece of the force needed to put our country back together, but he needs help. This past year, more local, independent retailers have declared bankruptcy since the 1930s. We have began to see the effects of globalization, and the evils are backfiring on us. The arguments that advocated for globalization have now become obsolete. Although we supply developing countries work, we have caused a transformation through international outsourcing to a credit-driven, consumer based economy.
So how do we, as consumers, help Obama? Through supporting your local, independent economy not only do you help your neighbor, but you encourage a new social trend. This social trend of local buying gives money to your community. If local economies are supported everywhere in America, local businesses will be able to compete again. This will give rise once again to local media as well, allowing consumers to have sources that they can relate to.
Barack Obama has proven his integrity to his promises in his first term. He is not only attempting to fix the economy, but help the common man as well. He promises a down payment on affordable health care in his next bill. It is sure that he is working to make changes happen, are you?

One moment of your time.Che is like many fascinating men of history. A deeply principled murderer. It’ll do you good to remember that. In the end Che is no better for sticking to his guns than any fascist or communist who killed in the name of the community. It takes no great man to murder.Che is interesting, but he has been rendered irrelevant by T-shirts and his personal choices. Its late here, and its a great article. All Hail the American Night.
